The O-Shot: One patient’s story
I recently treated a lady who was in her late 50s, postmenopausal and was in constant pain. She hadn’t been intimate with her husband for years and was really suffering from stress incontinence. Her other symptoms included dryness, itchiness, aching in the intimate area, all of which she felt were really impacting her life.
After hearing about the things she was experiencing, I recommended that she have two or three treatments.
After the initial treatment was given, she came back 2 weeks later and looked completely transformed. She looked really well in herself. Her hair was done. She was wearing make-up. She was wearing a summer dress. I honestly almost didn’t recognise her.
We chatted for a while and she told me that she was no longer in any pain, the dryness and itching had faded, her stress incontinence was down to 3 out of 10, and she had finally been intimate with her husband!
She said that she found her husband all over again and that she didn’t feel so lonely in this period of her life anymore.
Her physical health improved greatly as well. When I completed her second treatment, she looked healthy and plump, and the redness and soreness were gone.
The O-shot is a life changing treatment for anybody who is suffering from intimate problems. This patient's story is just one of so many that I could talk about. For me as a clinician, it lights me up seeing the effect and the transformation that patients experience with this treatment, it truly is incredible.
What does the O-shot involve/ how does it work?
The O shot is a truly life-changing treatment for a variety of symptoms in the genital/urinary area, such as vaginal dryness, painful sex menopause, urinary incontinence and itchiness.
The O-shot involves taking your blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the rest of the blood. The platelets are found in the plasma so once removed from the blood, it is known as platelet rich plasma or PRP.
This PRP is then injected into the vagina and clitoris - after some numbing to the area of course - where it starts to regenerate tissue and reduce the symptoms. Most people find that they need 1-2 treatments but this is dependent on the individual and on the severity of their symptoms.
Who can take the O-shot?
The O-shot is suitable for most people and is a relatively safe procedure that carries a low risk of adverse reaction as it is your own plasma cells that are being directed and used to heal problem areas.
This treatment is not suitable for those with blood disorders such as hemophilia, but please get in contact with a clinician if you are unsure as to whether this treatment is suitable for you.
What is the recovery time and how long is it between treatments?
The recovery time is very minimal, it's very common to experience a bit of swelling, redness and discomfort around the treatment area immediately after the treatment but this should go away relatively quickly.
Time between treatments again depends on the individual but on average it’s between 6-8 weeks between treatments.
