What is Bioidentical hormone therapy?
Bioidentical hormone therapy aims to target the symptoms you experience during perimenopause and menopause.
Oestrogen and progesterone are the two dominant reproductive hormones in women. At menopause their levels start to drop, but commonly progesterone levels fall much faster, creating a hormone imbalance known as oestrogen dominance.
Oestrogen dominance has been linked to many menopause symptoms including hot flushes, night sweats, weight gain and mood problems.
To combat this, we prescribe treatments that contain progesterone derived from plants. Plant based progesterone is closer to human progesterone than the synthetic version created in labs (progestins).
Bioidentical hormone treatments are very effective in treating symptoms of the menopause and often cause fewer side effects than traditional HRT.
