PRP For Hair Loss - Why I love recommending it as a clinician.

One of the most rewarding parts of my role as a Nurse Specialist is helping people feel more like themselves again. Sometimes it’s through improving someone’s health, sometimes it’s through relieving someone’s pain, and sometimes, it’s through restoring confidence.

Hair loss is one of those things that can affect people far more deeply than others realise. For some people, it’s gradual thinning that chips away at confidence over time. For others, it can happen suddenly after illness, stress, hormonal changes, or pregnancy.

I often meet patients who tell me they avoid mirrors, style their hair differently to cover patches, or feel embarrassed in social situations. And while some people may see hair loss as “just cosmetic,” I know from the conversations I have every day that it has real emotional impact.

Now there are a lot of treatment options out there for hair loss, but many are confusing, have mixed results or are expensive, invasive and can come with risks.

Personally, I love recommending PRP treatment for hair loss. It’s minimally invasive, carries very low risk of infection or adverse reaction, uses your own bodies platelets to regenerate tissues, and has real and noticeable effects on hair growth.

What Is PRP?

PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma — a regenerative treatment that uses your body’s own natural healing properties.

The process is simple:

• We take a small blood sample

• We place it in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma

• We inject that concentrated plasma into the area being treated

Platelets contain natural growth factors that help stimulate healing, repair, and regeneration.

In the scalp, this can:

• improve blood flow to hair follicles

• stimulate weakened follicles

• improve hair thickness and quality

• reduce hair shedding

In other parts of the body, PRP can also support tissue healing and repair. That is why it has become such an exciting treatment across aesthetics, sexual wellness, and joint pain management.

PRP for Hair Loss: When you get the treatment matters.

The most common question I get asked is:

“Will it work for me?”

The honest answer is: it depends.

PRP treatment is great for conditions such as:

• early-stage thinning

• male or female pattern hair loss

• stress-related shedding

• postpartum hair loss

• hair weakened by hormonal changes

But it won’t work for all causes of hair loss. PRP works best when hair follicles are still alive but weakened or dormant. It doesn’t create new hair follicles, it just helps to reactivate the ones that you’ve already got.

Before recommending treatment, I always want to understand the bigger picture.

Hair loss can be caused by:

• genetics

• hormones

• stress

• thyroid issues

• nutritional deficiencies

• illness

• ageing

• medications

If the hair follicles are completely gone, PRP may not be enough. I recommend having a consultation with a professional before booking in any treatments to see if it would be suitable for you.

More Than Just Hair

The beautiful thing about PRP is that it is not limited to hair restoration. It can also be used to regenerate tissues in other areas of the body.

For example:

Sexual Wellness Treatments

The O-Shot® and P-Shot® use similar regenerative principles.

These treatments may help support:

• libido

• sexual function

• sensitivity

• tissue regeneration

For many patients, these treatments improve confidence and intimacy. And again, that emotional impact matters.

Joint Pain and Injury Recovery

PRP is also increasingly used to support healing in:

• joint pain

• tendon injuries

• sports injuries

• chronic joint inflammation (arthritis)

Helping patients improve joint comfort, return to exercise, and live without intense pain.

Skin treatment

Heard of the ‘Vampire facial’? That’s PRP!

It helps to:

• Increase collagen production

• Increase elastin production

• Diminish the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines

• Reduce appearance acne scars and hyperpigmentation

Why I Love Offering PRP

PRP uses the body’s own healing mechanisms, so feels like a natural and supportive treatment vs treatments that use artificial platelets. But for me, this treatment is about more than the procedure itself.

It is about the moment a patient comes back and says:

“I feel like myself again.”

Whether that is because:

• their hair feels fuller

• they feel more confident

• their pain has reduced

• their intimacy has improved

— hearing about the improvements they’ve seen, that’s the part I love. It’s incredibly rewarding helping people feel happier in themselves.

What Results Can You Expect?

PRP is not an overnight fix, results take time to show.

For hair restoration, most people notice gradual improvement over weeks to months.

This may include:

• less shedding

• thicker hair

• healthier scalp and hair quality

• visible regrowth in some cases

The best results usually come from a course of treatments.

I always believe in setting realistic expectations and being honest about outcomes.
