Women’s Bio-identical Hormone Therapy Birmingham
At Complete Clinical Care in Edgbaston, Birmingham, we provide personalised women’s hormone treatment and HRT support for perimenopause and menopause. Our clinician-led consultations are designed to help women experiencing symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, sleep disturbance, mood changes, vaginal dryness, reduced libido and changes in energy or wellbeing. We take the time to understand your symptoms, medical history and individual preferences before discussing appropriate hormone treatment options, with ongoing clinical review and monitoring throughout your care.
Who is Bioidentical HRT for?
Women’s hormone treatment may be suitable for women experiencing symptoms associated with perimenopause, menopause or other clinically assessed hormonal changes. These can include hot flushes and night sweats, disrupted sleep, mood changes, reduced energy, vaginal dryness, changes in libido and other symptoms affecting day-to-day wellbeing.
Because symptoms can have several possible causes and hormone treatment is not appropriate for everyone, each patient should have an individual clinician-led consultation to review their symptoms, medical history and treatment preferences before an appropriate treatment plan is discussed.

BioIdentical Hormone Treatment Consultation
What is Bioidentical hormone therapy?
Bioidentical hormone therapy aims to target thesymptoms you experience during perimenopause and menopause.
Oestrogen and progesterone are the two dominant reproductive hormones in women. At menopause their levels start to drop, but commonly progesterone levels fall much faster, creating a hormone imbalance known as oestrogen dominance.
Oestrogen dominance has been linked to many menopause symptoms including hot flushes, night sweats, weight gain and mood problems.
To combat this, we prescribe treatments that contain progesterone derived from plants. Plant based progesterone is closer to human progesterone than the synthetic version created in labs (progestins).
Bioidentical hormone treatments are effective in treating symptoms of the menopause and often cause fewer side effects than traditional HRT.

FAQS
-
Women’s hormone treatment may be suitable for people experiencing symptoms associated with perimenopause or menopause, such as hot flushes, night sweats, sleep disturbance, mood changes, vaginal dryness or changes in libido. Whether HRT is appropriate depends on your symptoms, medical history and individual risk factors, so treatment should begin with a clinician-led consultation.
-
Not necessarily. In otherwise healthy women over 45 with typical perimenopause or menopause symptoms, diagnosis can often be made based on symptoms and menstrual history without routine hormone blood tests. Blood testing may still be recommended where symptoms are unusual, menopause is suspected at a younger age, or another medical cause needs to be investigated.
-
Some symptoms may begin to improve within days or weeks, although it can take up to around three months for HRT to have its full effect. Finding the most suitable type and dose can also take time, which is why ongoing review is important.
-
HRT can cause side effects, although many people experience none or only mild effects. These may include headaches, breast tenderness, nausea or unexpected bleeding and spotting. Side effects often settle with time, and your clinician can review the dose, type or method of HRT if they remain troublesome.
-
The terminology can be confusing. Body-identical hormones are regulated HRT medicines that have the same chemical structure as hormones naturally produced by the body and have undergone safety and effectiveness testing. The NHS uses the term bioidentical hormones for some unregulated compounded preparations and does not recommend these because their safety and effectiveness are less certain. If you are considering hormone treatment, your clinician should explain exactly which medicines are being prescribed and whether they are licensed and regulated.
-
Bio-identical hormone treatment is not one-size-fits-all. Your clinician will consider your menopause or perimenopause symptoms, medical history, current medications, treatment preferences and individual risk factors before recommending a treatment plan. Your response is then reviewed over time so the dose or type of hormone treatment can be adjusted if needed.
-
There is no fixed length of time that suits everyone. Some women use hormone treatment for a shorter period to manage troublesome menopausal symptoms, while others may continue for longer following regular clinical review. Your clinician will discuss the ongoing benefits, risks and whether your treatment is still appropriate at each review.
